In full, it’s actually Box of Extraordinary Gentlemen..And Ladies. A motley collection of characters from across the rich panorama of history. On the picture below, you have from left to right a well dressed gentleman who may or may not be Oscar Wilde, Moses and his Commandments, Black Beard, Alexander the Great, Beethoven, plus a coupla other blokes we couldn’t name. Oh yes, the ladies. Anne Oakley and Anne Bonnie are present too.
The ten action figures are from Archie McPhee, perhaps the most irreverent toymaker on the planet. According to the product page, these action figures would mix well with their counterparts from GI Joe and Star Wars. They can also have ‘intelligent’ conversations with each other, but this falls to the imagination of the user.
If it were up to us though, we’d expand the roster and throw in Buddha, Thomas Edison, and Steven Spielberg. Maybe Barbara Streisand as well.
Anyway, a box of these can be ordered at the Archie McPhee site. We’re sure Alan Moore, whose League of Extraordinary Gentlemen no doubt inspired these toys, would approve—or totally not give a flying farthing.
