Huawei preps major UK brand push

Chinese brand Huawei to invest heavily in UK brand promotion as it seeks to establish its IDEOS family of Android smartphones

Chinese manufacturer Huawei will push for share of the UK handset market with further brand building and corporate sponsorships in 2011.

Huawei was the headline sponsor of the Christmas Classics with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall in London in December, its first move to raise its brand profile.

It raised more than 20,000 for the Prince’s Trust from its VIP invited guests.

Huawei is expected to make a major UK marketing push in the next months as it seeks to establish its own handset brand, and move beyond OEM design for operators.

Huawei unveiled its second IDEOS handset in four months, the Android 2.2 IDEOS X5 (pictured), this month.

Huawei said its first IDEOS device, launched in September, has sold more than one million handsets in over 70 countries.
