Sony Ericsson to release Arc handset

Latest addition to handset manufacturer’s Xperia range to feature a range of Sony technologies and will run off the latest Android platform

Sony Ericsson is to release the Xperia Arc before the end of Q1. It’s the fifth Android-based phone to join the range following the release of the X10, X10 mini, X10 mini pro and X8 last year.

The phone, which has an arc body, measures 8.7mm at its thinnest point. It will run off the Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform and features a 4.2-inch touchscreen, 1GHz processor, 8.1-megapixel camera and HD video recording capability.

Mobile BRAVIA Engine is featured, which Sony Ericsson claimed dramatically improves the quality of images, as well as Sony’s Exmor R for mobile sensor which it said enables the capture of high quality, bright pictures and HD videos in low light.

The Arc comes with on-board memory of 512MB and has memory card support of up to 32GB. An 8GB memory card will come bundled with the phone as well as a HDMI cable for pictures and videos to be shared in HD via a television.

The Xperia Arc will be available in silver and black. It will be stocked by all major retailers and operators and will be free on 35-40 a month tariffs.
