Rich Green to be replaced by head of research labs Henry Tirri
Nokia chief technology officer Rich Green (pictured left) is taking a leave of absence from the firm to deal with a “personal matter”, according to a statement form the firm. He will be replaced by Nokia head of research labs Henry Tirri (pictured right).
Green joined Nokia just over a year ago after a decade at Sun Microsystems. He was a known champion of Nokia’s under-development MeeGo operating system, and Finnish newspaper reports suggest that his departure is due to disagreements with new CEO Stephen Elop.
Elop has scrapped Nokia’s in-house operating systems MeeGo and Symbian in favour of Windows Mobile.
The news of Green’s departure comes little more than a week after Nokia’s share price plunged as a result of a profit warning for the present quarter and the companiy’s decision to tell the markets it would not be producing further forecasts for 2011.
Today, Elop has dismissed rumours that South Korean mobile maker Samsung was preparing to acquire Nokia, describing them as “baseless” and saying the firm is not up for sale.
