According to reports from Bloomberg BusinessWeek and the Wall Street Journal, Sprint is set to debut a new dual screen Android smartphone developed and manufactured by Kyocera in the Echo. The Echo is claimed to have dual 3.5 inch displays held together by a pivoting hinge that would allow for vertical or horizontal orientation of displays, much like a thin book or the Nintendo DS family of handhelds, respectively. The device is also said to allow for dragging of applications and content between displays.
The announcement of the Echo is expected later tonight during a media event in New York being held by Sprint. Kyocera is currently represented in Sprint’s line up via the Sanyo-branded Innuendo messaging-oriented featurephone with QWERTY keyboard and the entry-level Zio Android smartphone. PhoneNews.com will provide complete coverage of the event tonight starting at 7PM CST.
