Android Continues to Surge With 300K Activations Daily, Eric Schmidt

The rise of Android has really made Eric Schmidt the most important person at this years Mobile World Congress and therefore whatever he mentions at the event, becomes news for us and all the similar sources. Schmidt talked about the upcoming Android update for the smartphones which definitely made news, but that wasn’t the only revelation from the Google boss.

He also revealed that there are more than 300k Android devices being activated on a daily basis which just reflects how popular the open platform from Google is, at the moment. Schmidt did reveal this number, but interestingly, if you compare this with the stats generated a couple of months back, Google isn’t just going anywhere with Android.

Now the near future for Android is all about tablets running the Honeycomb version and to be honest, the tablet market isn’t as booming as the smartphone even when talk about the next 12 months. This means that Android is at a very stagnant position at the moment and it will only move on from here when the ‘Ice Cream’ comes into the frame.

The App store though is doing well for Android as the Android market now boasts of 150K plus applications, a number which has tripled in the last nine months. It will be really interesting to see how Android performs in the times to come, and we promise to keep you posted about all the developments.
