As reported here on Cell Phones Etc. and across the Web, here’s your daily brief on what happened in the world of mobile phones this Thursday, May 5th, 2011.

Rogers reduces GRRF (Government Regulatory Recovery Fee) prices
Yes, the controversial Government Regulatory Recovery Fee (GRRF) of Rogers has been reduced, and will take effect beginning this month. This applies to both new and existing subscribers. The price adjustment varies per region, and depends on whether you’re on a voice/voice and data plan or data only. It isn’t much though. The highest is actually just a $0.10 roll back. But hey, as the saying goes, we’ll take what we can get, right? Check out our source below for the complete GRRF price adjustment table.

Sony Ericsson announces the Xperia mini and the Xperia pro
The often-leaked successor of the the Xperia X10 Mini Pro is now official. And not only that, it also brought along with it its QWERTY-less sibling. Aptly named the Xperia Mini and Mini Pro, these new pair Sony Ericsson Gingerbread phones are almost carbon copies of its predecessors. Specs-wise, however, these two definitely have more to offer, including a bumped up processor (1GHz), 720p HD video recording, and Mobile Bravia-powered touchscreen displays. Both devices are scheduled to roll out this August though pricing is still yet to be known.

iOS 5 may bring OTA updates to iPhone
Google’s been doing it for the longest time, and if this report proves true, Apple will soon be providing over-the-air updates as well. This has been a long desired feature in iOS, but it’s only now we’re hearing serios talk that it might actually be implemented for the iPhone and other iOS devices. Apple is reportedly already in talks with Verizon about this, and will actually be made available to devices running on iOS 5, the newest firmware that’s expected to be announced at this year’s WWDC in June. True or too good to be true? We’ll hopeful soon find out.

Nokia C6 now available at Fido in Canada
Nokia’s mid-level side-sliding QWERTY-equipped touchscreen phone is now available on Fido. The Nokia C6 is retailing for as little as $50 on a 2-yr contract or $275 if you get it on prepaid/outright purchase. Just to refresh your memory, the Nokia C6 (not to be confused with the Nokia C6-01) sports a 3.2-inch toucscreen, a 5-MP camera, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, 3G connectivity, and a slide-out full QWERTY keypad. It’s not that great, but it’s really not that bad either.
