It looks like Sony is working on a new type of Vaio notebook, which could possibly compete with Apple’s ultra slim MacBook Air, although this new Vaio notebook would still have the majority of the functions of a full sized notebook, through a second add on unit.
According to a report from Sony Insider, who has obtained some exclusive information about this new Vaio notebook, it will feature Intel’s Thunderbolt technology, and it will consist of an ultra slim notebook, with a Core i7 processor, SSD, no optical drive and HDMI out with 3D support.
The second unit which would connect to the VAIO notebook would house a discrete GPU, a Blu-ray drive, HDMI out, VGA, RJ45, and USB, and it could be connected to the Notebook when you need to use one of the additional components like the Blu-ray drive.
